About Michael

With over 20 years of teaching in NYC, we specialize in making unique, personalized dance experiences for everyone who walks through our door. Each and every person comes in with a unique set of desires, and our mission is to help them realize their vision even if that means simply finding it. That’s as true for a wedding couple as it is for our students who compete. We maintain our standards with a few guiding principles:

Creativity

Dancing is expression of the music with your movement and no two ways are exactly alike. We want you to have an individual connection to whatever music you are dancing to.

Individuality

We work with you to craft a vision of the experience you’d like to have with dancing, whether that means getting ready for an event or developing your skills for performance or competition.

Authenticity

Each dance has a tradition, roots that make them what they are. We believe passionately in honoring and understanding those traditions from Mambo to traditional Ballroom dances to NY Hustle.

Quality

While our team members each have decades of experience we continue to develop a deeper understanding of dance and are committed to bringing that to you in a personal way.

I love to see students develop and get to experience greater depths of the art form of dance: whether that's a competitive student, a professional, or someone just dancing for fun

About the lesson

Dance lessons offered by Michael are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in New York. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.

There are no words for how grateful I am for this studio. The owners are incredible people who provide a warm and welcoming environment. They, along with all of the instructors, are skilled dancers and even better teachers. They are extremely patient and have the ability to break things down for each student in a way that they’ll understand–it’s truly individualized instruction. The studio offers everything from choreographing wedding dances to dancing in pro-am competitions with students, who have had huge success. I have been learning from and competing with Michael for 10 years and have experienced tremendous growth and accomplishment. They also have a variety of group classes and workshops, including fascinating, historically significant dances like the shim sham. Big Apple Ballroom parties are a blast, with mini classes followed by general dancing, awesome showcases, and fun themes. The other students are friendly, welcoming and, above all, supportive of each other. It’s like a second home to me. I wholeheartedly recommend Big Apple Ballroom.
