About Clodagh

My name is Clodagh and I am a third year Bachelor of Education in Education and Psychology student in Mary I. I am studying to be a primary teacher, and hope to pursue a career in psychology later on.

I love Irish and it is my favourite subject to teach when on school placement and subbing. I am a fluent Irish speaker and would love to spread my knowledge.

About the lesson

I adapt an immersive approach to the teaching of Irish at school, that also promotes a love for the language.

When teaching Irish in schools, I adapt the immersive approach. This involves teaching Irish through Irish and essentially communicating in Irish for the majority of the lesson (however, of course, if your child/ you wants to speak to me in English I will accommodate and support them)

I also promote a love for Irish. Therefore, a strong focus will be placed on teanga ó bhéal, cluichí agus craic. Lecturers have highlighted in college the importance of the promotion of oral language as Gaeilge. Nevertheless, we can also focus on reading, listening and grammar skills at the same time. If you would like to let me know what your child hopes to learn/ experiences difficulties with, I can work on that with them no problem.

Lessons can last between 45 minutes to one hour.

I am a third year Bachelor of Education in Education and Psychology student at Mary Immaculate College. I have experience subbing in Gaelscoileanna, and I also attended a Gaelcholáiste. I received a H1 in Irish in the leaving cert. I have a lot of experience working with primary school aged children. I have completed two school placements (in Broadford and Kilbane National School in county Clare, and The JFK Memorial school in Limerick city). I also have experience subbing in many schools across Limerick city and county.

My lessons are aimed towards primary school aged children (5-12 years). I can also do some lessons with and offer advice to your sixth class child if they are transitioning from an English school to a Gaelcholáiste for second level education (as this was my situation when I was in sixth class!)
