About Adarsh

I’m Adarsh, a state-level chess player with a rating above 2000 and 5 years of competitive experience.

I’ve played numerous over-the-board tournaments, including a 2nd place finish at district level and an unbeaten 4–0 score in a state-level event.

My focus goes beyond memorizing moves — I emphasize understanding positions, planning, decision-making, and practical psychology.

I understand common plateaus players face because I’ve experienced them myself and worked through them systematically.

My teaching approach is structured, patient, and goal-oriented, helping students improve thinking process, not just results.

Find out more about Adarsh

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

My interest in chess started because I wanted to become better and beat a friend who used to beat me regularly for months. Slowly I improved, started understanding the game more deeply, and eventually began winning against him. After that, chess became something I truly enjoy, not just competitively but also for the thinking and creativity it offers.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

My motivation to teach comes from the fact that chess is such an amazing game, yet many people still see it as difficult or underrated. I like helping others understand that chess can be enjoyable, practical, and rewarding when learned the right way.
  • How does your work help society?

Teaching chess helps people improve focus, patience, and decision-making. It also helps students become more disciplined in how they think and approach problems, both in chess and outside it.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

A role model for me would be myself in the sense that I manage to stay consistent. Even while working full-time in IT, I still make time every day to study and play chess for several hours, which has taught me discipline and balance.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside teaching, I enjoy reading novels, programming, and creating new things, especially in technology. I like activities that involve thinking and building ideas.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

One of my favorite moments was playing against one of my students in person when he came very close to beating me. In the end I won, but seeing how much he had improved made it a very memorable and satisfying experience.
