About Joel
I'm a 19 year old university student who really likes the idea of getting into tutoring Mandarin, a language and subject that I'm growing fonder of more and more as I continue to learn it. Taking Mandarin at GCSE was one of the best decisions I ever made as it was a very unique opportunity as it isn't offered at the majority of secondary schools in the UK. I believe at this current time I can provide a quality service for anyone at any age who is new to Mandarin and would like help in getting to grips with the foundations of this great, but admittedly confusing and difficult language. Although I have no prior experience in tutoring, everyone has got to start somewhere and my knowledge of Mandarin is improving all the time as I study it every day. The idea of teaching someone else a subject that is so niche is really refreshing and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and passion for Chinese with other students.

I am 19 years old with no prior experience as a tutor but have studied Chinese for 5 years at GCSE level, achieving an A grade, and am now currently in the 1st year of a 4 year International Business Management course at Newcastle University. The typical length of a lesson will be an hour long covering the 4 areas of Chinese study i.e. writing, listening, speaking and reading. However, the major focus will depend on the student's needs and what areas they feel they need to improve. My lesson's will be provided for beginners who are new to Chinese and require the fundamentals of Mandarin. My techniques will involve a variety of different approaches e.g. translation exercises, multiple choice questions, writing characters practice, speaking exercises but most importantly a mix in every lesson to avoid boredom, as learning Chinese at the start can be quite overwhelming, especially at an early age.
