About Olivia

I hold a PhD from Oxford and have worked in international education contexts, across schools, universities, museums, and heritage institutions. As an educator, I place student development at the heart of my work.

French Tutoring: I have experience teaching in the classroom (high school and university), in French institutes (Alliance Française) and in private tutorials. I have taught French for 10+ years in several countries (UK, USA, and the Ukraine). I have taught over 200 students. My students have all achieved the goals we had set: GCSE and A-Levels, University exams, and/or DELF/DALF level.

Humanities Tutoring: I am a trained historian with a facility for pedagogical methods that strengthen students' confidence and capacity to think independently. I tutor in history, geography, politics, literature, and art, focusing on interdisciplinary skills. I can tutor students from KS3 to Bachelor, preparing them for exams and improving their grades.

About the lesson

I teach students at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners, across both French and humanities subjects. My student-centred, communicative approach prioritises active participation, discussion, and independent thinking, helping students build confidence while developing strong speaking, writing, and analytical skills. I adapt each lesson to individual needs, whether for exam preparation or broader intellectual growth, creating immersive and engaging sessions that strengthen subject knowledge, critical reasoning, and long-term academic success.

Example Lesson Outline (60 minutes):

1) Review of previous material and key objectives (5 mins)
2) Introduction to new topic through discussion, text, or source analysis (20 mins)
3) Guided practice: speaking, writing, or critical analysis exercises (20 mins)
4) Targeted feedback and clarification of grammar / concepts / argumentation (10 mins)
5) Summary, reflection, and personalised homework/tasks (5 mins)

Perfect! Wonderful Tutor, highly recommended!
My daughter was not confident with her French Speaking and we contacted Olivia to give her a few lessons leading up to her GCSE exams. My daughter loved being tutored by Olivia (who came to the house) and her confidence grew in just a few lessons. She got an 8 (A*) for her French and this was hugely down to Olivia!!! I can't recommend her highly enough.

Perfect! Olivia is an amazing teacher!!! She taught french to my two daughters (10 and 13) because they needed to keep studying french while we were on sabbatical in Oxford for a year (we are originally from France).
Both my kids enjoyed these courses very very much.
The older one never read so much before. She read (and worked with Olivia) 6 different novels throughout the year.
The younger one needed to work on french grammar and spelling. This is not a very exciting subject, but Olivia managed to make it enjoyable.
Olivia is very serious, dedicated and knowledgeable. The fact she studies history is also a great asset to work with kids (they learnt a lot on history too).
