About Cris

As a recent graduate student in biomedical engineering from UCL (first class) and PhD student in HCI, I would be happy to help you. I have published full papers in High ranked HCI conferences such as CHI and CSCW. I have developed strong skills in R for data analysis and statistics. Throughout my degree and internships (Francis Crick Institute and AMGEN scholar at ETH Zurich), I have developed skills in Python for data analysis, machine learning, web development and more (libraries used: matplotlib, numpy, pandas, pytorch, pytorch3d, keras, tensorflow). I used MATLAB during my degree and for my master's project, using image processing, plotting and libraries such as Eidors. I like helping my colleagues, I continue learning and improving. We can solve your problems together! Don't hesitate to contact me for a free call to tell me what you need and see how we can proceed.

My lessons are focused on the student's needs. I ask for the student to send in advance what they would like to work on and prepare my class based on it. It can be a topic or piece of coursework. If the students want to learn a particular topic, my classes would be divided into 2 parts. The first part would be about theory, we review together and see what you have/have not understood. The second part will be practising based on exercises. I can help with: - programming (R, Python, C #, MATLAB + GitHub/GitLab, CircleCI). I can teach in English or French.

  • 1) Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

My first experience using a computer is in my parents' house. We had a single computer desktop shared with the family. I was quite young and would spend hours playing games - chief among them: The Sims!
  • 2) What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

The metaverse, an immersive online environment developed with XR technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), is changing the way people interact and will interact in the field of healthcare, marketing, education, and gaming.
  • 3) Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

With my background in biomedical engineering and my PhD in computing science and psychology, more specifically VR safety, I have gained knowledge in a wide range of areas from biomechanics, medical imaging, data analysis to human-computer interaction and online safety. With the world moving towards ubiquitous connectivity, not only we need to consider how technology can help patients physically and mentally, but we must also consider its risks, especially concerning children.
  • 4) Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

Someone who really inspired me, is my friend's uncle who had ALS, he was completely paralyzed and to communicate he used his eye gaze to write with a device. After meeting him, I knew I wanted to help develop technologies that would aim to change people's lives positively.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When I started programming, I was completely clueless at first and thought I could never be good at it. I worked hard, completed bootcamps and now I am doing a PhD in computing science! I understand students who struggle, and I want to help them be more confident because I was able to do it, so can they!
  • 6) What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

At first, it seems quite complicated, but it is like any other language you learn. If you practice, soon enough it will be quite fun and rewarding. Don't give up just yet! You can do it! You got this!
  • 7) What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

I love boxing, dancing, and weightlifting. I have learned to be determined and consistent. Some days you can feel demotivated, but it is all about discipline.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in IT?

I believe with my multi-disciplinary background, passion and hard-work I can help students achieve their goals. I will be like a team member rather than a simple teacher. I really want to see them succeed and become more confident.
