About Bryan

I started swimming at 9 years old after my coach, who was teaching at the apartment complex pool invited me to try out with his team. Within 9 months of training competitively, I won 13 medals in my first competition and was selected to represent my state (county). At 16, I made my international debut, representing Malaysia at the 2019 SEA GAMES in the Philippines, where I made the finals for both the 50m and 100m butterfly, racing against Olympic gold medallist, Joseph Schooling. Since then, I have gone on to represent Malaysia internationally with my most notable achievements being : - 2024 World Aquatics Championships (Doha, Qatar) - 2023 Asian Games finalist (Hangzhou, China) - 2023 World Aquatics Championships (Fukuoka, Japan) - 2023 World University Games semi-finalist (Chengdu, China) - 2022 Commonwealth Games semi-finalist (Birmingham, UK) Now, I am the Malaysian national record holder in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly. My long course PBs are : - 50m freestyle: 23.07s - 50m butterfly: 24.35s - 100m butterfly: 52.96s

  • 1) What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I first started competitive swimming at age 9. Within just 9 months of training, I became a state swimmer, winning 13 medals in my first competition. At 16, I made my international debut, representing Malaysia at the 2019 SEA GAMES in the Philippines, where I made the finals for both the 50m and 100m butterfly, racing against Olympic gold medallist, Joseph Schooling.
  • 2) What are your favorite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

My main sports are swimming, which I practice at a high level, and football, which I enjoy as a simple hobby. I would really like to learn boxing and golf.
  • 3) What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

My passion for the sport itself, the sense of accomplishment after a challenging session, and the camaraderie with teammates inspire and motivate to pursue swimming

Additionally, I find motivation in the satisfaction of achieving personal best times, setting and conquering goals, and the continuous journey of personal improvement in swimming. It's the combination of these elements that keeps my passion alive in the pool.
  • 4) Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

Breaking my first Malaysian national record was a dream come true for me. It's something I had always dreamed of and worked hard to achieve. Now, being the holder of four records feels surreal and incredibly fulfilling. The journey wasn't just about the records; it was about the countless hours of dedication, the ups and downs, and the support from those around me.
  • 5) How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

Every achievement acts as a confidence boost, a validation of the hard work I've put in and keeps me motivated to keep on going on. Challenges, on the other hand, have taught me invaluable lessons - they've humbled me, taught me resilience, and made me a fighter.

Overall, swimming has developed my character as someone who doesn't just chase success but also appreciates the journey, learning, and growing with every step.
  • 6) If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

I would have to pick to GOAT of swimming - Michael Phelps. I think he is every swimmer's idol growing up and to accomplish what he did was just incredible.

I would ask him how he managed to not miss a single training session in 5 years.
  • 7) How do you help people stay motivated?

I believe in being there for others, offering a friendly ear, and cheering them on every step of the way. By setting realistic goals, fostering a positive environment and celebrating small victories, I aim to inspire and uplift people, helping them stay motivated and focused on their journey.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in sports?

What sets me apart is not just my expertise, but my genuine commitment to your success. I bring a personalized touch, understanding your unique strengths and challenges. My coaching style is not just about skills but about building confidence, overcoming obstacles, and celebrating every victory together.
