A lack of self-confidence can be troublesome. Believing in yourself is a way to love yourself, overcome shyness, be brave enough to step out your comfort zone, and rid yourself of negative thoughts.
However, it’s not easy. Fear of failure or of how other people perceive us can harm our self-confidence. Fortunately, songs can be great for building up your self-confidence and making you ready for anything.
Here are some of Superprof’s favourite songs for your self-esteem and confidence. They can help you feel amped, powerful, and start a cycle of positive thinking, which is useful for building your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Feeling like you don’t fit in is a big problem for many of us and it can be troublesome if you constantly feel like an outsider. There’s nothing better than a song for putting you in a good mood.
Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is about accepting yourself for who you are. It’s from her 3rd studio album from 2011. Strongly inspired by female and gay empowerment music from the 1990s, this song is great for pumping you up.
Be yourself regardless of how you are and whether or not society considers you “normal”. The song is the anthem for the “different”.
“Rejoice and love yourself today 'Cause baby you were born this way” - Lady Gaga
If you love electropop and looking for a way to get amped, you could do far worse than Born This Way. Being happy is the philosophy of Mother Monster.
Elton John - I’m Still Standing
If you’re young, you mightn’t be familiar with the work of Elton John, but the musician has sold over 300 million discs around the world. I’m Still Standing is from his 1982 album Too Low for Zero. This is one of the better songs to make you feel better about yourself.
It’s literally about staying standing after everything has tried to knock you down:
“Don't you know I'm still standing,
Better than I ever did.
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid.
I'm still standing after all this time,
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind.”
This Elton John song is a great way to feel motivated and confident. No matter what people try to do to bring you down, you can be resilient and ready to fight back.
It encourages you to stand up to critics and also free yourself of toxic people. If you want to work on your self-confidence, you can listen to I’m Still Standing regularly.

Queen - Don’t Stop Me Now
Freddy Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, was essentially self-confidence embodied, at least on stage. He’ll be remembered for his confidence, charisma, and musical genius.
Don’t Stop Me Now is a 1979 song from the band and it’s hard not to feel good while listening to it. It calls us to live life to its fullest. So if you’re looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, this is the song for it.
Pink - Raise Your Glass
What better way to celebrate the career of Pink than this anthem to all those who need a quick pick-me-up?
The song Raise Your Glass came out in 2010.
“So raise your glass if you are wrong,
In all the right ways,
All my underdogs,
We will never be never be, anything but loud,
And nitty gritty, dirty little freaks,
Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass,
Just come on and come on and raise your glass.”
Pink invites her listeners to be themselves even if they’re wrong. Of course, without coaching, therapy, or mindfulness, you’d be surprised how good a song can be to give you a boost.
Smash Mouth - All Star
If you’ve seen Shrek, you’ve heard this song from Smash Mouth’s 1999 Album. A pop-rock song telling you to go for it and shine like the star you are. Brimming with positivity, the song begs us to feel good. So get your game on!
BTS - Dynamite
You’ve probably heard of BTS even if you’ve never listened to any of their songs. The K-pop boy band has listeners from all over the world. Their 2020 single Dynamite is entirely in English!
It’s important to have self-confidence. This disco-themed tune is great for anyone in need of some motivation. Again, this is a self-affirming tune.
“Cause I-I-I'm in the stars tonight,
So watch me bring the fire and set the night alight (hey),
Shining through the city with a little funk and soul,
So I'ma light it up like dynamite, whoa oh oh."
It’s a positive message with a bright and colourful music video, like most of the group’s other music videos. You’ll quickly understand why the group is breaking record after record. If you like K-pop, there’s plenty of other songs you can check out:
- Wooseok X Kuanlin - I'm a Star
- NCT U - Make a Wish (Birthday Song)
- Stray Kids - Get Cool
- 2NE1 - I'm the Best
- BTS - Epiphany
- LOONA - So What
- MAMAMOO - Yes I Am
- IU feat G-Dragon - Palette
- GOT7 - Just Right
- MONSTA X - Hero
- ITZY - Dalla Dalla
- NCT U - BOSS
- BTS - Idol
There are plenty of other K-pop songs that’ll put you in a great mood, but we certainly recommend you start with Dynamite.
Gossip - Move in the Right Direction
Move in the Right Direction is the 2012 single from the American group Gossip. In the catchy chorus, the singer Beth Ditto asks us to move in the right direction despite everything that may get in our way.
It’s a bit of an anthem for those who need some self-confidence. We can learn to get over life’s challenges even if it’s by taking small steps in the right direction. Have a listen!
Lily Allen - Fuck You
The more society brings you down, the more you want to say “enough is enough”. Lily Allen chose a different set of words but the message is the same.
If you feel like you've had enough, it’s a good song for catharsis and getting on with your day without letting the other stuff get you down. The song was taken as an anthem against homophobia. In short, you don’t have to listen to toxic people and you know what to say to them.
Katy Perry - Roar
"I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,
Dancing through the fire,
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar,
Louder, louder than a lion,
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar.”
This kind of self-affirming message works for Katy Perry and it could work for you.
The 2013 song Roar sold over 30 million copies worldwide and was another one of the singer’s big hits. It’s a classic pop tune that will make you want to get up and fight.
Of course, a song that makes one person feel more confident mightn't necessarily work for another. Try out a few different songs depending on how you're feeling and remember that self-confidence isn't always easy to find.

You can also learn more about singing and music from the tutors on Superprof. There are three main ways to get private tutorials: face-to-face, online, or in a group. Each type of tutorial comes with advantages and disadvantages in terms of teaching approach and budget so you'll need to carefully consider which is right for you and what you want to learn.
Face-to-face tutorials are usually the most costly as they're a tailored and bespoke service offered by a tutor who will usually travel to you. Due to the extra time the tutor dedicates to creating bespoke lesson plans for you, you can expect to pay more per hour than the other types of tutorials. However, by having the lessons adapted to the learner, they're far more cost-effective as every minute will be dedicated to teaching you in a way that's right for you.
For those on a tight budget, group tutorials can be incredibly useful as you can share the cost of the tutor's time and expertise with the other students in the class. While these classes won't be tailored to just you, you can take advantage of peer learning and also be guaranteed you'll always have a singing partner or ensemble to work with!
If you can't find any suitable tutors in the area, you can always broaden your search. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can now enjoy tutorials from tutors all over the world. As long as you have a decent webcam, microphone, and internet connection, you can look for online tutors to help you with your singing.
Don't forget that many of the tutors on Superprof offer the first lesson for free. This is a great opportunity to try out potential tutors and types of tutorials to see which is right for you. It's also important that you get on well with your tutor as we learn more effectively when we're in a good mood and if you're planning on spending a lot of time learning from your tutor, you must have a good working relationship.
