(12 years) Experienced South African English Educator available for tutoring online. Can tutor most other learning areas

Methodology

The lesson I will teach depends on the content. It also depends on the age of the person/group. Both the teacher and the learner will have access to the learning material (visual and audio). Additional to on the intensity of the content, the lesson will always be interactive and conveyed with a great sense of humor and humility.

Background

Eton House (Chengdu. China) 2019-2020
• International Teacher: My roles and responsibilities are that of any private school’s high expectations. It is my primary task to converse with the learners in English and focus on their fluency rather than on their accuracy. They are however very young so learning comes easy to them. It is a beautiful thing to see when your students grasp the message which you are trying to convey. Some of my students can already speak English words, phrases and sentences.

I successfully obtained a post as an Educational Leader in the Emirates. My main function was to lead and facilitate basic education in the Halima Al Sadia Elementary school for girls. I gained a tremendous amount of skills during this time and I built a lot of relations with various educators from all over the globe. I can truly say that I am totally at ease with any culture and I know how to conduct myself around people with different views and religions - this I have found to be crucial in effective management and facilitation. Deadlines were to be met at a weekly and daily basis and I learnt to perform under extreme pressure.

I worked at this multi-cultural educational institution for 4 years where I learned so much through observing other educators and managerial staff. During this time, I taught all 9 learning areas. My responsibilities were quite vast and I was also the Secretary and member of the School Governing Body. Administration and time management were key factors in my professional development. I also ran and maintained the IT lab for the whole school and developed my own curriculum to be taught to all the grades.

Chrisna's CV

I have more than 10 years’ experience in teaching learners of all age groups. Adult training / leadership is also one of my strong suits. In every workplace, I took initiative and did more than was expected of me. I teach and implement excellent communication skills and lead by example while doing so. I am fully proficient in English and my personality is warm and alluring. My methodology is based on years of interaction with many individuals; most of these individuals still communicate with me to this day.

I am a versatile, eager, competent worker who acts positively in both competitive and social environments. I consider myself an excellent diplomat of people as to ensure achievable results.
My passion and love for people is my job! How wonderful is that? I am a great listener and I can ‘read’ between the lines to find the cause/ root of the difficulty experienced by an individual. One of my mottos is to ‘Think for yourself!’. If I have succeeded in teaching you this mind-set, then I have empowered you with your own set of tools. To me it is important for learners to find their own solutions and to try to initiate independent learning.

I am more than capable to monitor students, report on all important activities or issues; as well as maintaining an online ‘relationship’ with my fellow tutors and with the learners.
My administrative skills are also exceptional and I pride myself in delivering the best possible results. Communication, time-management, organisational skills and good human relations are definitely my strong points. I can ‘think on my feet’ and react in a professional manner at all times. It is in my nature to act in an ethical manner in general. I follow the ‘rules’ without hindering creative thoughts and new concepts.
I need life to be challenging; I thrive on problem-solving and learning/teaching new things. That is why I was born.

One of the most interesting jobs I’ve ever had was Instructional Design. I was trained to academically create/design instructions and questions which effectively / optimally enable comprehension, critical thinking and application. My training involved systematic approaches to identify the most efficient means to generate consistent, optimal results.
Have you taken part in any projects that help demonstrate your capabilities?
I recently moved to China, taking on the responsibility of being an International Teacher in a country where very few people can speak or understand English. This has proved to be a great challenge especially with regards to basic comprehension and communication. By being open and kind, I have established many relationships/ friendships in and outside of the workplace.
A few years ago, I taught English as a Home Language to Grade 11 learners. Aside from the academic/administrative responsibilities, my biggest responsibility was to empower each student with confidence and competence at their specific intellectual level.

Building rapport with my students is the most important step in making progress of any kind. I make you understand by asking different questions. Together, as friends, we discuss your progress and your problem areas. I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement while discussions take place.
Moving from the level of thinking (of the student) and then pushing their self-awareness to lead them to higher thinking and effective decision-making makes me tick. To see and to hear a difference in their English competence and their personal growth is the most rewarding achievement ever!
I am truly interested in the Online English teacher position and I sincerely hope that my qualifications and experience align with your needs. It would be such an adventure for me to guide these individuals according to their needs and potential. Looking forward to hearing from you. Truly.
