My name is Nina and I am currently studying my second year of Psychology at the Open University with aim of becoming a teacher. I am tutoring children from secondary through to A-Level.
I like to cater my teaching to my student by finding out their strengths and weaknesses through getting to know each other. I like to find techniques that work best for the individual and will aid in the learning of topics or areas that they find difficult. I like my students to be actively involved in their learning, giving feedback on what activities they enjoy and which they find the most beneficial to them and most of all what makes learning fun for them!
Lessons will be planned on a week by week basis, centered around what was discussed the previously in regards to what the student is confident they have learnt, what they could learn more about and what they are struggling with. This way, I find, the student gets a well-rounded lesson based around both strength and weakness.
This will be my first time tutoring through my degree, however, throughout A-Level, I tutored several groups of 3-4 students in Psychology in the year below mine. They all achieved their target grades with many exceeding these grades. I have based my methods and the way in which my teach around feedback I received from these groups and this was what interested me in teaching. Although I may not be as practiced as others, I more than make up for it in enthusiasm and you will find this upon taking classes with me.
I received 9 GCSE’s from Countesthorpe Community College. These were Double Science, English Lang, English Lit, Maths, Humanities, Music, Design Technology and French. I then moved to Lutterworth College where I received an AS in Extended Project Qualification and 3 A-Levels in Psychology, English Literature and Textiles. I then went to study at Liverpool John Moores University where I completed my first year in Applied Psychology. Due to health circumstances I had to move back home where I started my Psychology BSc at the Open University where I am currently in my second year. So far I have completed modules in Childhood and Developmental Psychology and Research Methods. This year I am studying Psychology the everyday to the extraordinary. This encompasses all aspects of Psychology - social, cognitive, biological, evolutionary, developmental, educational and neuropsychology. Along side this I am doing Research Methods second level. I love Psychology and I am incredibly passionate about the subject. There are bound to be areas that you love and others that you don’t however with the techniques I have learnt during my academic life I aim to make every aspect of lessons fun and engaging as I believe that is the most important way to learn!
