Methodology

My method is tailored to your specific needs. Often I work with someone on a draft that they have or we will start from scratch to conceptualize your piece of writing and see it through to the end. I have also assisted clients in preparing for interviews and writing cover letters for job applications. My forte is providing critical feedback on theses so that they may be improved prior to submission.

Background

I am a lifelong scholar and academic who gets fulfilled by helping others in the academic world. I am a high achiever and have received several competitive scholarships and awards. I have articles published in academic journals as well as other public platforms. I also love creative writing and came top in the country for the De Beers English Olympiad for Creative writing. I am currently a finalist for the prestigious Fulbright fellowship and offer coaching on preparing for interviews, writing cover letters and personal statements.

For a one hour one on one and face to face session my rate is R300 per hour. Skype sessions are less.

January – 2018 - Present Teaching Assistant for graduate (Honours) Social Theory course: Is Capital Colourless? convened by Dr Bernard Dubbeld. This position involved gaining comprehensive knowledge on the course material to provide academic support to graduate students and to grade papers.

2018-2019
Freelance editor and researcher: I currently work as a freelance academic editor and researcher. An example of the companies I conduct ad-hoc research work for include S-RM Corporate Intelligence, Crisis Management and Cyber Security.

January 2018-June 2018 Consultant for the Institute for African Alternatives, Published of New Agenda Journal for Social and Economic Policy - Course Contributor Public Governance in Africa (Distance learning for Public Servants in Africa) commissioned by the School of Governance, University of Pretoria.

June 2016 – October 2017 Project Officer at the Association of European Parliaments with Africa (AWEPA): In this role I worked closely with members of parliament and staff from the parliaments of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho and Malawi. I designed numerous training programs for up to 50 parliamentarians centred on strengthening parliament’s engagement in the budget process and improving public financial management. This role included conducting face-to-face interviews with members of parliament and staff as well as conducting research focus groups.

Jan 2016-June2016
Campaigns researcher at Equal Education: this position entailed conducting research into various campaigns, primarily the Scholar Transport campaign in KZN province. I conducted desktop research in scholar transport appropriations and governing law related to provision of scholar transport to support advocacy by the Equal Education Law Centre. I was a key researcher and contributor to the 2016 Social Audit into school safety and sanitation in the Western Cape.

Feb – August 2015
Intern: The Policy and Analysis programme at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation. This position entailed:
• Developing the Policy and Analysis programme strategy implementation: identifying socially research areas of output need. This included the primary research and writing of policy briefs related to gender, civic participation and youth politics.
• Conducting data analysis using Afrobarometer and the SA Reconciliation Barometer datasets to compile various outputs such as basic information booklets, dispatches and policy briefs. This required the ability to work with Afrobarometer’s online data analysis tool as well as statistical analysis programme SPSS.
• Assisting on research projects such as developing a standardized ‘social cohesion index’ commissioned by the UNDP;
• Event coordination;
• Being a participating member of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation’s Race and Gender Working Group.
