I strongly believe in the adage - Tell me and I will forget, Teach me and I will remember, Involve me and I will learn. (Benjamin Franklin). The privelege of teaching children through play and activity in Scouting has helped me refine the way I involve students
I studied Nature Conservation and was top of my class. I love biology and became involved in the research and animal capture side of Nature Conservation. All of this required a working knowledge of biology, zoology and botany. I have been a Scouting leader for more than ten years and have an affinity for teaching children.

SUMMARY OF WORKING EXPERIENCE
Directorate of Nature Conservation, Namibia (January 1989 – March 1991)
As Senior Ranger of the Game Capture Unit, my responsibilities included capturing and handling rhinoceros, sable, lion, Oryx, Tsessebe, impala, buffalo, roan, zebra, and elephant. I was also responsible for all aspects of translocating the above species, i.e. preparing and loading the animals, and driving the articulated game transport trucks.
I was a key member of the team that executed the first pilot rhino dehorning “experiment” worldwide and many subsequent successful rhino dehorning projects. My responsibilities included the complete administration of the game capture unit, including the budgeting and procurement of equipment and supplies for this unit. I was also responsible for the administration of 23 members of staff.
I was actively involved in the Veterinary activities of the Game Capture Unit, the preparation of capture medicines and the medical care of captured animals. As a result of the specialist knowledge I gained in this particular field, I was approached by The Rhino and Elephant Foundation to build Rhino pens and Boma-train captured White Rhino in Botswana (Khama Sanctuary).
INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
I was educated at a school that strictly enforced discipline and respect, and I believe that I have carried that through into my adult life. I am a dedicated family man, have high moral standards and like to think of myself as a person with utmost integrity. I have proven myself to be an innovative leader, however I am also able to follow directions and have a high regard for leadership. I am a confident person who will try to solve any problem and have gained extensive knowledge through my many work years and varied experiences in different environments.
I am particularly strong at differential diagnoses and the resulting solutions. I have a very technical mind and am able to grasp and assimilate the concept of most things mechanical and electrical. I am an enthusiastic technophile; anything that requires a technological insight interests me. My logical and analytical abilities help me to identify problems and solutions quickly and accurately.
My strongest assets include my ability to communicate and to get on very easily with people from various backgrounds. People generally trust, like and respect me. I held the position of Chairman - Friends of the Johannesburg Zoo Trust for five years and was previously a Trustee for three years. I was the Chairman of the Body Corporate of our residential complex for 10 years, and have been actively involved with this Board since 1994.
I firmly believe in giving back to the community and have been involved, as a volunteer, with the South African Scout Association as both a Pack and Troop Scouter for 10 years. I have a Cub and Scout Warrant and hold a Wood Badge, which is the highest award an adult leader in the movement can attain.
