About Alla

I had the privilege of growing up in a bilingual household which gave me an affinity for language learning. My greatest passion is being able to relay my language learning experience and skills to others who struggle to see patterns and logic in foreign languages.

In my 5 years of teaching experience I have worked with children, teens and adults, teaching Russian, German, French and Chinese.

I lead interactive lessons which are based on relevant content like contemporary media, rather than textbook regurgitation. For languages the most efficient way to learn is through active comprehension, which is why I employ various different techniques such as dictations, visual learning and contextual learning.

I have successfully taken many language exams with the standard exam boards and therefore I am well-versed in the methods and techniques needed. Although alongside learning exam techniques it will be of high value to the student to also develop their own natural understanding of the language so that they can employ it with natural fluency during the exam.

My approach to language teaching is flexible and open-minded. My own personal experience of learning languages at school was terrible and convinced me that outdated teaching methods are the root cause of the UK's monolingualism. I do not believe that the UK is inherently monolingual and I am on a mission to change this.

About the lesson

As a linguist I have always seen a language as the purest form of expression of a country's culture and people. The German language certainly embodies the German spirit with its innate logic and practicality! Once you learn and understand the rules of German, you can quickly master it! 5 years of experience teaching GCSE and A Level students has enabled me to break down its syllabus and develop fool-proof techniques that all students can implement to achieve top marks. In my lessons I usually target the commonly weakest faculties of foreign language; Speaking and Listening. We will take a holistic approach, firstly building on confidence and then working on building thought flow in the target language. It's possible that you fear speaking the most, because it requires you to think quickly in that language on the spot. This is easily corrected with the right approach. It goes without saying that students perform best when they feel relaxed and engaged. That is why I always make my student feel comfortable and never judged. I will take the time to get to know your child's interests and incorporate this into our discussion and writing which will undoubtedly increase their chances of top marks!

Particularly, her emphasis on learning based on native media and real-world usage of the language, rather than leaning heavily on textbooks, gave me a deeper understanding of how native speakers use the language on a daily basis. What’s great about Alla’s lessons is the unconventional approach to language learning. I’ve had issues with traditional teaching styles in schools and Alla’s techniques really helped me to take a new perspective when acquiring a new language!

My son has had so many problems with his French GCSE in school and I thought it would be a hopeless case. But after some lessons with Alla I was so surprised that he was speaking confidently and it seemed like the language finally made sense to him! Definitely recommend Alla’s unique methods!

I’ve never known of the contextual acquisition technique and it’s really helped my daughter with her GCSE German predicted grade.
