I have recently finished my BSc Psychology degree, finished with a 2:1, and I’m nine months into my MA in Creative Writing with The Open University. I am tutoring children from primary school through to A-Level to gain experience in order to become a fully-qualified teacher.
I like to cater my teaching to my student by finding out their strengths and weaknesses through getting to know each other. I like to find techniques that work best for the individual and will aid in the learning of topics or areas that they find difficult. I like my students to be actively involved in their learning, giving feedback on what activities they enjoy and which they find the most beneficial to them and most of all what makes learning fun for them!
Firstly, I like to get to know my learner and what they feel what aspects of Psychology they are struggling with. Once this has been identified, I can cater a dedicated part of each lesson to actively improving knowledge and confidence in this subject area. Psychology, whilst formed on basic principles, has a differing number of approaches and research, therefore, it is completely normal to feel that you feel more confident in one area than others.
Every lesson will have time spent looking at the fundamental basics of Psychology so that you have the foundation knowledge to keep building.
The end of the lesson will then incorporate reflection from the learner, what they have learned and what they want to learn the next time. The feedback from the learner helps me to cater lessons individually, concentrating on activities they find enjoyable and beneficial rather than boring and inefficient.
I look forward to learning and working with you!
Throughout my A-Levels, I tutored several groups of 3-4 students in Psychology in the year below mine. They all achieved their target grades with many exceeding these grades. We would usually learn through playing games to remember key words, writing mind-map journeys to remember essay question answers and doing investigating and research activities to broaden knowledge. I found that making the learning fun was the key to remembering what was taught and therefore that is what I base all of my lessons around.
I received 9 GCSE’s from Countesthorpe Community College. These were Double Science, English Lang, English Lit, Maths, Humanities, Music, Design Technology and French. I then moved to Lutterworth College where I received an AS in Extended Project Qualification and 3 A-Levels in Psychology, English Literature and Textiles. In 2019, I completed my Psychology BSc at The Open University; completing modules in Childhood and Developmental Psychology, Research Methods, Counselling Psychology and Extraordinary Psychology. I love Psychology and I am incredibly passionate about the subject. There are bound to be areas that you love and others that you don’t however with the techniques I have learnt during my academic life I aim to make every aspect of lessons fun and engaging as I believe that is the most important way to learn!
Currently, I'm studying towards my MA in Creative Writing and I'm thoroughly enjoying creating wonderful and imaginative worlds for my classes. I particularly enjoy writing children's fiction and I'm working on writing and illustrating a series of children's books about my dog, Henry.
I have known Nina for almost 5 years now, and one of the main things I have noticed about her is that once she puts her faith in something, she will wholeheartedly strive to make sure she fulfils this faith. As well as this, Nina’s empathy with others adds even more dedication to helping out anyone who might be encountering difficulties. I completely believe in her abilities as a tutor.
Nina is naturally a great tutor, she shines with knowledge and confidence in her work and brings the best of herself to any task given. She’s great with English and has helped me on numerous occasions add extra spark to the text on my website.
I highly recommend Nina, so easy to talk to and work with!
