I have 3 steps I use.
1.loosely introduce a topic, then run down the chapter to allow the structure student to get a general feel if topic suchthat it's not too much to take in too soon.
2.Go back to the beginning and taking a closer look, with a more focused approach.
I have seen that it makes students more comfortable with the material.
3.At this stage I test by discussion to see where my students are and what needs to be worked on in terms of what they have grasped thus far.
