Hello! My name is Brent, and I’d like to tell you a little about myself.
After getting my BA in Spanish and Anthropology, I went on to get an MA and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin in comparative literature (with a PhD minor in Spanish).
I have taught or tutored students in literature courses, writing, reading, ESL, and Spanish at all levels (from elementary to University).
During graduate school, I led discussion sections for large lecture-style literature courses. It was during this time that I discovered how much I loved teaching and helping students with their writing.
As I was finishing up my dissertation, I began volunteering as an ESL instructor. Since receiving my PhD in 2016, I have continued to work with ESL learners and special needs students in high school classrooms while also teaching online ESL classes to English learners in China.
In addition to teaching, I continue to write, and have published numerous translations (from Spanish into English) in Patagon Journal and have written original articles for Givology, a nonprofit organization committed to improving access to education in the developing world.
