About Abdul
My name is Abdul Basit, I am 19 and am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lincoln. It’s great to be at university! I really enjoy the freedom of university, and I am learning exactly what I have chosen and have a passion for.
Going to secondary school has greatly influenced my interests and what I enjoy. I went to the Priory Lincoln Academy, where I studied and obtained my GCSEs and A-levels: Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Looking back now, I’m very happy with what I have achieved and experienced there, but also glad about moving on to the next step.
I feel that school was not just a place to learn and study, but also a brilliant place for friends to gather and socialise, and I believe that what you learn from interacting with classmates, your teachers and your environment can be just as important as learning topics like Maths and English in the ‘real world’ after leaving school.
My friends and I went through a lot during secondary school, times we have enjoyed and haven’t, and I have really understood the importance of friends over those years, someone who is familiar and trustworthy, as you and everyone around you are changing with age and experiences.
I believe that it’s essential to have someone, whether it is family, someone at school or online that you can talk to because everyone goes through difficult times in their life. I’d like to think that I am someone that you can talk to about any difficulty!

1. Engaging lessons and choosing your own topic!
As a student that has gone through GCSEs, I know how important it is that a class is engaging and moves along at an appropriate pace. Tutoring allows a student to control the pace of their own lesson with more freedom in what they learn, whether it is a topic that they have struggled with or learning new methods that make their time in tests a lot easier.
2. Support when studying with familiar teaching methods
An excellent method for revision recommended by a lot of teachers to students is to test themselves and answer a lot of questions to make sure they are ready for their exams. I agree that this is a very effective method, but it can be quite tedious and difficult for a student on their own. Tutoring is a great time for students to test themselves because of the immediate support they can receive when stuck on a question, allowing them to rapidly improve on difficult topics. Having experienced GCSEs, I am familiar with the methods and techniques that teachers expect a student to know and having studied further in A-Levels and University, I can also share the tips and tricks I have learnt from higher levels.
3. Flexible lesson times
The length of lessons at school are always solid, but I believe from my experiences with fellow students that allowing the length of a tutoring lesson to be more flexible can greatly benefit students. This is because every student learns differently, with some benefitting from long periods of learning and others benefitting from more frequent but shorter lessons. Through lessons, students can show their preferences in lesson time, allowing me to tailor lessons better to each student.
4. My experience tutoring and an adaptive teaching style
Before signing up to Superprof, my tutoring has mostly been for friends and family before major tests and examinations, which has greatly improved their results over the years. When tutoring them, I found that both the student and the tutor can benefit and solidify their knowledge, and a tutor can adapt themselves to better teach certain topics that their students are struggling on, picking up useful methods and sharing them with their students.
I am looking to teach students from Year 9 to Year 11 on GCSE Physics and Maths, with most of my experience in AQA Physics and Edexcel Maths.
