Different subjects require different methods. Mathematics requires more structure, but wherever possible I like to integrate real-life examples to demonstrate usefulness of skills and help students problem solve as much on their own as they can. I like to help push them to be independent, self motivated learners and where memorization is required, I try hard to make it fun!
I have an double Honours Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences, with a concentration in Geochemistry and Hydrology/Hydrogeology.
During my undergrad I ran an organization that had me writing lesson plans and teaching workshops on environmental science topics in local schools and with community organizations. I began working in my field shortly before graduating as a Hydrogeology Jr, GIS (software) analyst and Project Manager. I also worked in the Business sphere doing Corporate Events Marketing And Business Development. I realized then how much I missed and loved teaching.
So I began work for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario as a supply teacher. I most often got calls for Elementary but am very capable tutoring high school as well, and have done so on the side since I was in high school myself many years ago. I worked 4 months straight FT as an Elementary French Teacher on an LTO teaching Core French (JK through Grade 4), Intensive French and Mathematics (Grade 6).
There is no subject I won’t teach. I was an >90% average student during my own high school years and maintained a similarly high GPA at McMaster University. I have experience with students with LDs and special needs and am never afraid to make learning fun, meet children where they are, and I seek to empower every student I work with to be the best THEY can be.
