My teaching method is learning through fun. I enjoy interacting with my pupils and love to gift them with a love for the English subject. I have over twenty years of teaching experience and have taught all ages - from toddler to adult.
I have been teaching for over 20 years and teaching professionally for over twelve. I have taught all ages. I love teaching - I love the opportunity to share my knowledge with others, and I am a very interactive and friendly person.
If I need to travel a great distance to the student a transport cost will be added to my fee. A 24 hour cancellation notice is required, except in the case of sudden sickness. If I ever need to cancel a lesson due to sickness I will arrange an alternative time with the student and make up for that time.

* VOLUNTARY WORK (MUSICAL THEATRE 2017)
Drama Buzz inc. is a home school drama group that was created out of a desire to see family friendly plays on the stage. The company has staged eleven successful musicals to date, most of them at the Roodepoort Theatre. The cast all consist of home-schooled children between the ages of ten and eighteen, and the costumes, props etc. are all made by the mums of the children in the cast. The children audition in April every year and rehearsals run from April to August. The musical is showcased at the Roodepoort Theatre annually on the first weekend of August. Younger siblings are also invited to be part of the play, but sometimes they are allowed to be in a short production of their own.
In 2017 I was asked to adapt the children’s book The Velveteen Rabbit into a ten minute play for the junior cast and I was also required to direct and produce it. This play was performed by fifteen little actors, ranging from the ages of three to nine years old, before the main Drama Buzz production of Annie. This work was unpaid, but was nonetheless extremely rewarding. Every Wednesday morning from April to August my little people learnt their lines and a complicated dance, which I had choreographed especially for them, and got ready to wow the audience. On top of this, they also recorded a song which they would later dance to! – Those recording sessions were definitely interesting and very fun, but they were also a little stressful as I tend to be a perfectionist.
The junior cast practised for an hour and a half every Wednesday and later on their rehearsals got extended to three hours. Drama Buzz actors are also required to rehearse from 08:00 – 16:00 from Monday to Friday for a week in July. This tends to be a very intensive week and my little actors were not exempt – although their rehearsals ended at 11:00 and I used the time after their rehearsals to help the volunteer Mums make props and costumes and whatever else needed doing. Drama Buzz performs six shows, from Thursday to Saturday every year and my Velveteen Rabbit cast performed their little preshow four times to a packed audience. This was a great experience for them and for me! When I wasn’t with my little people, I helped out in the makeup team for the older cast and was part of the backstage team for five out of six shows – I watched the other one with my friends.
Those four months in 2017 were some of the most exhausting and exhilarating of my life and I would absolutely love to be part of the theatre world again. I learnt a great deal – how to source props and costumes and how to make both; how to work as part of a massive team; how to teach little people to dance (not an easy feat, I assure you!) and project their voices; how to record a song; how to do stage makeup and work backstage during a production and much, much more! This experience helped me grow as a teacher and taught me that I was right not to underestimate children – they are capable of a great deal if we have confidence in them!
COMMUNITY SERVICE (1996 – 2010)
I used to do volunteer work with one of the children at Oasis Haven of Love, which involved Occupational Therapy and confidence-building exercises. In addition to this I also volunteered with the children at Oasis most holidays, taking them on outings and doing fun crafts in the classroom. Since the year 1996 I have served in various churches in South Africa, Switzerland and Germany as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Crèche Assistant and Usher.
During my time at the Evangelischen Montessori Kindergarten in Germany, I worked with ten special-needs and severely disabled children. Two of these children had Downs Syndrome; one was mentally disabled; two were Autistic; one had Epilepsy, and the other four were mildly physically disabled. I enjoyed my time with them and would be more than willing to work with such children again, giving them all the love and attention they deserve.
I currently work for the Randburg franchise of A Plus Students, a company formerly known as CMaths. The Maths teachers are known as Senseis and we teach a Japanese method using a Soroban (abacus.) The lessons are fun and interactive. The ages taught range from three years old to thirteen and we teach in classes of no more than eight pupils, according to their level. Once the foundational Soroban rules are mastered, the children move on to the Kyu levels which teach more complicated concepts. These start from 9th Kyu and move up to 1st Kyu and then DAN which has ten sub-levels within it. The teachers undergo further training as needed, and I am currently qualified to teach 6th Kyu.
