Modelling is one of my prefered methods of teaching. I believe in setting the example I want my students to be. I also follow the teaching mothod of operant conditioning and reinforcement by BF Skinner.
I am an BA general graduate with the majors of Sociology and Public Administration. In my first and second years of study I have completed mutliple modules in English literature, drama and poetry writing. I have also completed a course in communications. My experience in teaching comes from my ability to be articulate, patient and also willingness to learn from environment and students.
In my four years work experience, I have occupied a merchandiser and cashier position in one of the leading retail companies with a good record of meeting weekly targets. My work tasks included communicating with customers from different backgrounds to meet their needs. This opportunity allowed me to groom my interpersonal and problem solving skills by addressing customer complaints and queries relating to clothing items and account payments.
My work ethic and the ability to articulate effectively led me to occupy a position at the Nelson Mandela University’s radio station where I led a team of three with the objective of producing, hosting my own show and find interesting topics around social issues to discuss. My ability to approach sensitive issues in a delicate manner and being able to work independently earned me the award of best current affairs show of the year in 2017.
My studies in human resources management and sociology has further equipped me with the skills to effectively motivate, communicate and train employees by using the systems of performance appraisal, career counselling and incentives for good performances. My application of these skills in the work place led me to get good ratings from both manager and guests for effectiveness and initiative.
My weaknesses include being too punctual and perhaps sensitive at times, my previous employer tells me I tend to take feedback personally however I am constantly adjusting and acknowledging that I have to take negative feedback/criticism and see it as an opportunity to improve on my work.
I’m also assertive when it comes to performance and do not tolerate the same mistakes from individuals however I have come to realise that different individuals require different training methods. Now instead of retraining an employee the same way I usually change the method of training.
