I approach each student by first understanding their own learning methods, as some students are kinetic learners, auditory, visual, or tactile learners. From what I learn fromero them I will try to create lessons that have produce curiosity within them to learn. I also am aware that each student has different strengths and weaknesses so I would want to be clear what their goals with the lessons were. Do they want to improve comprehension skills, or reading speed? Or essay writing, or writing under exam conditions? This would help me further gear the lessons to be of maximum value to the learner. Ultimately I want to get them invested and interested in their work and academic success. I can only do some of the work for that.
I have personally pursued academic excellence in English, having been on the Dean's list for Academic Merit at Rhodes University, and have been the recipient of academically based bursaries. I am was English literature major, as well as a Philosophy major and graduated with distinction. The combination of these subjects has equipped me to write and understand writing at a far higher level. I love the theory of the language but also have tools to make it accessible to people who might not have as much passion for the subject. I have also worked in a Cape Town public school as an English teacher whilst completing my PGCE.
