About Leila

I have passed the AP biology exam, have received my Associates before my high school graduation and have a passion for biology.

I was an aide for both honors and AP biology. I have experience setting labs up, making worksheets and working with all learning types.

I want to help my students become passionate about biology.

I tutor and teach with the up most professionalism. A student's learning process is theirs and I'm not here to judge them, just help them reach their goals. Everyone learns at a different pace and have different styles of learning, thats why I try to tailor my approach to each and every individual. I have had my own academic struggles, as does every student. I will not ask my students to share any personal details, such as class grades, test grades or personal struggles. All I will ask is comfort levels with knowledge and topics of concern. If a student wishes to share this information I will keep this private. I believe everyone has the right to their privacy. I am here to keep students engaged with the material and help them grow academically. I want students to feel confident about their knowledge in biology.

I start off with assessing the student. What does the student already understand? What learning style is best for the student? This is in a short no pressure quiz form. From there I can customize the learning experience. Most students aren't just one learning style, so it will be a mix.

For more visual students the lesson plan will look more like this.
- Start off a quick warm up, a worksheet, making the student recall information that is important to know before today's lesson. I will see areas of trouble during this process. I do this will all types of students because knowledge can change lesson to lesson. This prevents me from repeating things the student already has an understanding of and lets me know what needs to be revisited.
- A slide show will be the meat of this lesson, showing many pictures, videos and diagrams and having frequent small knowledge checks.
- After the slide show, we have a time where any questions may be answered. Questions are welcomed throughout the whole lesson, but for more shy students this is a good time to let them ask.
- Then finally have them do a closing worksheet on the lesson, this could be filling in a cell diagram or writing down the take away of the lesson.

For more kinetic students a typical lesson looks more like this.
- Then a lab will be the meat of the lesson, showing an important process in biology. I will do knowledge checks throughout the lab making sure the student understands what the lab is trying to demonstrate. Labs could look different lesson to lesson. Building a diagram could be a lab, and so could be mixing hydrogen peroxide and enzymes. I will always make sure the labs are home safe and the students comfort level is aways a concern.
- Afterwards is a question period. As with all my lessons, questions are always welcomed but this time helps clear up any confusion and makes sure I didn't rush by anything.
- Last thing is a post lab assignment, asking questions about the lab and the meaning behind it.

For more audio students a typical lesson looks more like this.

I do this will all types of students because knowledge can change lesson to lesson. This prevents me from repeating things the student already has an understanding of and lets me know what needs to be revisited.
- Then we talk about biology. This is more of a conversation then a lecture. Questions are asked frequently to make sure the student is comprehending everything. I might play a video about the topic. If the student is more musically inclined I might ask them to help me create a song about the topic we are learning.
- Questions time is always a part of my lesson plan. Make sure students understand everything we discussed.
- We will end the lesson with a little verbal quiz.

Lesson plans can change due to material and level but this would be a typical lesson plan for each learning style.
