About Jemma
Throughout school I loved maths and as weird as it sounds, enjoyed helping friends and classmates in this area. It's the type of subject where I belive one on one based teaching can dramatically change the course of a student's ability to succeed. It's hard to get that 'ah hah' moment with a student when having to deliver a generalised lesson plan to 30 people particularly because of the way your brain has to work within the topics of maths, physics and chemistry.

In my tutoring sessions, I focus on confirming that a full understanding of the subject material has been reached with an initial overview, practice questions and having the student explain the topic back to me.
Every student knows best what they are struggling with and therefore I like to implement open communication where the session is student-led. One of the biggest opportunities for learning is for a student to send me questions they are struggling with ahead of time so I can provide model answers after guiding them through the process of answering that style of question during the session.
Beyond this, I believe the biggest issue in education is the lack of teaching about how to do well in the format of exams being taken. Therefore I will spend time with each student devising a study plan that works for them and aid them in creating resources that implement spaced repetition which is the key to success in end-of-year exams. Hitting specific mark scheme requirements is an area missed by a lot of students which leads to lost marks so I will help guide them to work in a smart and efficient manner in terms of receiving the maximum number of marks.
The typical length of a session will be 1 hour. My lessons are aimed at students completing GCSEs, junior cert or lower as I completed education in physics and chemistry up to A level and am continuing my maths schooling into university. I personally completed my GCSEs and A levels under the CCEA exam board but am equipped to tutor any GCSE students.
