Whether you’re looking for a hobby or you’re trying to make it big in the art world, learning to paint is always a good idea.
Paintings have the power to transport us to another reality. Across decades, painters have improved their style and have shown us that art pieces can capture a time period more perfectly than anything else.
Through the ages, painters have worked at improving their techniques, used different tools, and been inspired by various things in their daily lives.
The art of painting has evolved to become a world in itself.
However, to master the art of painting as a beginner, there are certain techniques that you might want to know more about.
There are 10 essential painting techniques for budding artists known as underpainting, dry brushing, sgraffito, glazing, gestural, stippling, pouring, splattering, dabbing, and palette knife. Amateur painters are greatly encouraged to try as many new techniques as possible so that they can slowly find their voice as an artist. Also, knowing painting methods helps you to develop a better idea as to which time period the artists and works are from.
If you’re new to art history and haven’t had the chance to study it before, you’re probably unfamiliar with famous artists and painters who have left their mark on the world.
Every century has its renowned painters that were either incredibly revered during their lifetime or only received fame after they died.
Some of the most famous painters include Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol, to name a few.
All of the previously mentioned painters were incredibly talented and had unique styles that can easily be identified. It’s sometimes a wise idea to study the famous works of past painters to get an idea of how they implemented painting techniques and found the style that worked best for them.
While there are some hobbies that are easily self-taught, many people are still on the fence about whether or not it’s possible to become a skilled painter without any guided training from specialists.
So, the question arises, is it even possible to teach yourself the fundamentals of painting?
The answer is a resounding yes!
Teaching yourself how to paint doesn’t have to be intimidating since all you need are the right materials, targeted practice, and the right frame of mind. There are quite a few YouTube tutorials that are created for beginners and the YouTubers have great tips and tricks that make learning an absolute joy.
